We love the Mules for the warm days of the year when you just need something easy to wear that's versatile in both casual and slightly nicer situations, and that gives you a nice breeze on your feet that you'll want at high noon. Note: Viberg mules are built on Viberg's 2030 last. Viberg recommends you take 1 size down from your Brannock for these. Based on our own experience trying on several sizes/pairs of these specific Natural Chromexcel Mules, we found these to feel slightly more spacious than the calf suede versions of the Mule. We're not sure if it's just our imagination or if it actually is larger, but our recommendation is still to take 1 down from Brannock for a fit with room in the upper/vamp, as well as space behind your heels. If you are on the smaller end of your size, you could go 1.5 down from Brannock for a similar fit. Or, if you just prefer a more snug fit you can go down 1.5 - your heel may just ever so slightly be sitting on the back lip though (not very notable as you are walking as your heel will be coming up off the insole). If you plan to wear with socks, we do not recommend going 1.5 down from Brannock. Please note that our recommendation to go with 1 down is because of how the Mule wears and how your feet will shift (front-to-back) as you wear it. Going with 1 down will prevent your heel from landing on the top of the back lip, but also will give the leather upper more of your feet to hold onto. Going with 1.5 down will generally feel better at the beginning, and if you are careful with your stride will probably fit just fine. However, given our experience with how the Mule wears, we find that with 1.5 down your heel is more likely to land on the back lip, and the Mule can also feel like it's coming off your feet more often (less mass for the Mule to grab onto).
Model: 10E Brannock wearing size 9, leaving ample room on the back end for the heel and also allowing his feet more room to slide into the upper/vamp to keep the Mules more secure. Model can also size down to 8.5, but the Mules are slightly less "sticky" on his feet as the upper does not cover as much of his feet, and his heel is also slightly touching the back lip.
